Renting a Car in Mazatlan

Mazatlan Car Rental

As a city that sees a great deal of tourism year round, Mazatlan is well prepared to give you a quick and easy car rental experience.  Most of the large international car rental agencies have a place either at the airport or within the Golden Zone (Zona Dorada), including: Hertz, Budget, Alamo, Advantage, Europcar, and National.

This makes sure that you will not only find a car to drive without having to face a struggle, but you’ll also be able to work with a company that you know and trust and that you’ve possibly used before.

If you intend to keep your car for the length of your trip, you may want to consider renting your car right at the airport, where there are several rental offices all grouped together at the terminal’s exit.  That way, you’ll have your vehicle right from the point that you enter the country.  Furthermore, each of those rental agencies have in-town locations, as well, so if you decide that you’d rather rent a car for only your first day or your first few days, then you can always return it to the location in the Golden Zone to help keep your expenses down.

To be able to rent a car when you arrive in Mazatlan, you will need to produce your passport, a valid driver’s license from your home country, and a credit card.

It is highly recommended that you obtain the collision and liability insurance that is offered by your auto rental agency when you rent the car.  There are typically more choices of coverage available in Mazatlan than there are in the United States and Canada.  It is a good idea to consider the type of coverage that you need even before you leave on your trip so that you know how much to buy when you get there.

Even if you already have some coverage through your credit card company, you may still want to buy at least the basic coverage from the car rental company to make sure that you won’t be left with any surprise expenses.  In the event of an accident, coverage from your home auto insurance policy or credit cards may have caps, limitations, exceptions, or other terms of which you are not aware when you’re driving a vehicle outside the country.  For the cost of a few dollars, it is worthwhile to purchase the additional coverage that will save you from spending hundreds if not thousands out of your own pocket should an accident occur.

If you decide not to rent your car while you’re at the airport, that doesn’t mean that you won’t still have the opportunity to do so while you’re in the Golden Zone in Mazatlan.  There are just as many car rental agencies represented there and the fees are virtually the same.  You may decide to rent a car on a day that you will be doing a lot of travelling into different parts of the city or when you decide to leave the city on a day trip.  This will save you a lot of money on bus or cab fare – especially if you’re travelling as a couple or a group or family.

On average, if you rent a smaller car during your stay, you can expect to pay in around $50 per day.  If you’d like a larger vehicle such as a mini-van or SUV, you will likely pay about $80 per day.  Those averages do not include the cost of insurance, should you purchase it.

Whether you’re renting for one day, several, or your entire trip, it’s easy to get the transportation you need for your stay in Mazatlan.
