Best Restaurants in Mazatlan

The north Pacific flavors available only in Mazatlan are unequalled around the world, especially in terms of the available seafood and fish.  Furthermore, the area is continually adding to the available cuisine to include both local and international influences so that every gastronomic preference is catered to and even the most discerning palates will be pleased.

The offering of international and local restaurants is a perfect complement to the atmosphere of the region and is highly appealing to tourists.  Though there are dozens of culinary specialists in the city, the following are some of the more celebrated that are located in the Golden Zone, which is the main touristic area:

  • Casa Loma – located ten short blocks from the beach, this is considered to be one of the top places in Mazatlan to eat.  It is usually avoided by people travelling on a stricter budget, due to its higher prices, most people say that it’s well worth the added expense.

  • Poncho’s – situated right on the beach, this is a tourist favorite at lunchtime.  The view from the restaurant is unparalleled, the food is flavorful, and it is accessible to any budget.  Among the most popular dishes are those featuring fish that is prepared in the style of Veracruz, which cooks it in a foil in sauce with vegetables, tomatoes, and onions.

  • Panama Camaron-Sabalo and Las Garzas – this is the most highly recommended place to eat for visitors by tourists who have been to the city.  It open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is very clean, using purified water for drinking, washing the produce, food prep, and ice cubes.  The menu has a wide variety of options and the prices are considered to be quite reasonable.  The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Panama is also one of the city’s top pastry bakeries, so dessert should not be missed

  • Senor Frogs – located just outside of the Golden Zone, halfway between it and downtown Mazatlan, meaning that it is an ideal stop on the way back from visiting the center of the city. Though the food and prices aren’t considered to be in the highest category, they are still quite reasonable, and they are only improved by the wide range of official souvenir wear that is a lot of fun, as is its disco bar.

  • La Casa Country – this restaurant is located in the heart of the Golden Zone and is a lot of fun for those who want a broad range of offerings including seafood, ribs, steak, and grilled chicken.  The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable.  The building is very new and it is conveniently positioned directly across the street from the Holiday Inn Hotel, which makes it easily accessible for visitors staying there.  An entertaining and special touch that is unique to this restaurant include the occasional floor show put on by the wait staff who line dance in a country/western style while wearing white cowboy hats.

  • Gus & Gus – this restaurant, which is pronounced “goose goose” by the locals, with the “and” dropped altogether, has a relaxed sidewalk café feeling and is found right across from the Costa Oro Hotel.  It offers snacks and dishes in a Mexican style and serves beer at a reasonable price.  Live music is available there most evenings.

Other restaurants in the Golden Zone that are enjoyed by tourists include:

  • Jungle Juice
  • The Sheik
  • Villa Italia

No matter what you feel like eating for any meal of the day, the restaurants in Mazatlan will have precisely what you want and at a price you can afford.
